‘The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with
himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are,
extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican.’ –
Luke 18 vs 11
Hello Beloved, through this short message, I wanna show you
few things. Read and be Blessed.
Our opening scripture is an excerpt of the parable the Lord
Jesus gave us about Self Righteousness. I want us to see the full story;
9 And he spake this parable unto certain which trusted in
themselves that they were righteous, and despised others:
10 Two men went
up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican.
11 The Pharisee
stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other
men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican.
12 I fast twice
in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess.
13 And the
publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven,
but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner.
14 I tell you,
this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one
that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be
exalted. – Luke 18 vs 9 – 14 {KING JAMES VERSION}
You see that? There were two (2) classes of men, one a Self-Righteous
Pharisee and a complete sinner (Publican). Now from the parable we read above,
we see two (2) notable characters of Self Righteousness;
1- When one is self righteous, he trusts in his
works of righteousness to obtain what he desires from God, instead of having
Faith in the power of God.
2- When one is self righteous, he despises
others who aren’t as righteous as he is.
All these attributes, God hates so much. - Think about it
Beloved brethren, let us not trust in our own works of righteousness, but in
the Righteousness which is freely given by Faith in Christ Jesus. God doesn’t despise
sinners because they are the reason HE died on the Cross, neither does HE
expect us to, because through us He seeks to extend His love to them.
‘As it is
written, There is none righteous, no, not one’ – Romans 3 vs 10 {KJV}
God has spoken, God has declared, there is none righteous, not even one.
Therefore, stop trusting in what doesn’t count before God. Put your faith daily
on the Righteousness Jesus gave to you by His own works, and God begins to see
you as Righteous as Jesus Christ His son. And you know what? His Righteousness
is perfect; you can trust it, not yours. – Selah
When you pray to God, put your faith in God’s love for you, and not your
works of pleasing Him, love people and despise none. Accept sinners in love
just as they are, and by so doing, you give the Holy Spirit opportunity to
minister to them through you.
Be Full of Jesus’ Love!
God Bless You.
